This chapter explores the sociological viewpoints of development, providing valuable insights into how societal perspectives both influence and are influenced by developmental processes. Grounded in sociological theory, these viewpoints offer a nuanced understanding of development beyond mere material progress, encompassing aspects such as freedom, social well-being, and evolutionary perspectives. Additionally, the chapter explores development as an emergent property of the system and delves into the structural transformations associated with modernity. Furthermore, it critically examines the paradoxical nature of development discourse, shedding light on the complexities inherent in developmental processes. Lastly, the chapter outlines a Normative-Composite Model of Development from the perspectives of Bangladesh and the Global South, offering an alternative to dominant discourses and highlighting the limitations of existing national and international policies.
