Plato’s Tenth Muse was a prolific poetess but only 650 of her lines survive. Recognizing that most poetry from ca. 750–350 BCE was performed—and therefore composed—as sung music, sometimes accompanied by dance, this précis submits that we should beyond interpreting the fragments also speculate on what Sappho’s opus might have sounded like.
