This chapter utilizes an approach to the development of behavior support plans that is based upon the competing pathways model often used in applied behavior analysis. Our framework, the Triple T-Triple R, simplifies the competing pathways method with use of more accessible language and an easier to use graphic. The new chart is demonstrated through the use of case studies from the authors’ work to provide real-world applications. The chapter explains the necessity of determining the function, or why, of a behavior and how to teach a functionally equivalent replacement behavior. Finally, the chapter explains how to structure environments for student success through manipulating antecedents (in our model “triggers”) and applying reinforcement (or, impacTs in our revised pathways model). We provide examples and resources that should render our model readily accessible to teachers, service providers, and parents alike.

摘要
