With developments in polymer composite technologies, polymer nanocomposites have emerged as outstanding materials due to their high surface-to-volume ratios and excellent mechanical properties in several aspects. The present study is focused on the investigation of the influence on the physical and mechanical properties of epoxy-based nanocomposites when enhanced with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The study is emphasized on the density and hardness of the as-prepared MWCNT-epoxy composites. Experimental results show that addition of MWCNTs enhances both hardness and density. The addition of CNT was varied from 0.1 weight % to 0.4 weight % and it was found that the properties were varying proportionally. The average maximum density and hardness vales were 1.168 g/cm3 and 20.13 HV corresponding to the 0.4 weight % MWCNT addition in the epoxy resin. This enhancement in properties may be attributed to the effective dispersion of the MWCNT within the epoxy forming a strong interfacial bonding.

摘要
