Investigation of Soil Corrosion on Mild Steel and Its Impact on Material Degradation
摘要
Soil corrosion is a big problem for buried metallic infrastructure, material degradation, and economic losses. This study looks at how the structure changes and appearance of rust on mild steel when exposed to natural soil for one year under different weather conditions. Weather conditions range from 2–3 °C to 45 °C, 10 to 320 mm rainfall, and 20% to 75% humidity. Surface morphology and corrosion products were analyzed by using and X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results show that soil resistivity and chloride ion concentration affect corrosion rate. This study helps in mitigating soil corrosion by understanding its mechanism and environmental factors.
