Convergence of Business and Sustainable Practices: The Vital Role of Sustainable Startups in Advancing Environmental Care. Case Study: EcoSwop Solutions
摘要
The survival of societies and the planet’s health are linked to pursuing a sustainable future (UN 2023). The UN’s sustainable development vision demands organizations adopt strategies that balance “economic growth, social equity, and environmental protection” (Barbier 1987). Given the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the business sector is increasingly recognized for its crucial role in achieving these goals through positive social impact, sustainable ventures, and corporate responsibility (Gionfriddo and Piccaluga 2024). Startups are key drivers of the SDGs, creating innovative solutions that put sustainability at the forefront (Gionfriddo and Piccaluga 2024). A sustainable enterprise aligns its vision with business goals, making responsible decision-making a fundamental part of its operations (Clarkston Consulting, 20XX). Driven by consumer demand and regulations, sustainability-focused firms are prioritizing “green products” (Bhardwaj et al. 2020). Sustainable startups often employ Product–Service Systems (PSS), which combine products with services to fulfill customer needs while minimizing environmental impact (Evans et al. 2017). Green supply chain management (GSCM) is increasingly crucial as companies adopt strategies to address environmental concerns. Firms are moving from reactive measures to embedding sustainable practices into their core strategies and corporate culture (Oliviera et al. 2018). However, startups often face challenges in tailoring solutions to diverse environmental issues and bridging the talent gap for specialized skills (Tim 2024). This study will closely examine a sustainable startup through a case study. EcoSwop Solutions, founded to provide eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastics, focuses on empowering women in rural areas by conducting workshops to create sustainable products and promote sustainable living within their communities.
