Synergizing Sustainable Development Goals and Mental Health in Nepal
摘要
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted globally in 2015, provide a unifying agenda for addressing poverty, inequality, health, and sustainability by 2030. Mental health is increasingly recognized to be central to these goals but is under-prioritized in the majority of low- and middle-income countries like Nepal. Nepal has made significant achievement in mental health over last two decades; however, the alignment with the SDGs is still inadequate. The mental health policy documents highlight the commitment of Government of Nepal toward mental health of the citizens and alignment toward the SDGs but there are various challenges. In this chapter we aim to explore the intersection of the SDG agenda and mental health in context of Nepal. We also aim to explore systemic challenges like lack of political investment, funding gaps, and weak information systems and provide recommendations for effective mainstreaming of mental health into SDG implementation in Nepal.
