Overview of Sustainable Development Goals and Their Health Significance
摘要
People across the globe struggle with poverty, hunger, unemployment, health issues, gender inequality, issues of sanitation and clean water, getting quality education, and access to clean energy. Economic growth, infrastructure development, effective community bonding, energy regulation, developing peace, providing justice, and collaborative efforts are other major challenges faced by a majority of countries across the world. Climate change is emerging as an important threat to mankind and also affecting life on land and underwater. To systematically deal with these issues effectively, the United Nations has developed 17 goals in 2015, which are targeted to be achieved by 2030. Several initiatives have been taken to achieve these goals at the national and regional levels over the past decade. This chapter gives an overview of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to comprehensively understand these goals and their health implications.
