In order to solve the technical problem that the existing Online sipping test equipment in nuclear power plants is difficult to detect and locate the slightly damaged fuels, the main reasons were analyzed, including the inadequacies in the selection of detectors and the structural design. By improving the crystal type and optimizing the detector structure design, a new type of high-sensitivity Online sipping test equipment with γ- β dual probes (referred to as OLSIP) was developed. The minimum detectable concentration of the OLSIP equipment was found to be 2.68 × 103 Bq·m−3. Finally, the OLSIP equipment is applied and compared with the existing equipment in the overhaul of nuclear power plant. The test results show that the detection sensitivity of the OLSIP equipment is 3 times that of the existing equipment.
