Centrifugal extractor is an extracting equipment commonly used in nuclear chemical facilities for rapid and thorough mixing of two phases and rapid phase separation using centrifugal force instead of gravity. Due to the presence of rotating components, the centrifugal extractor may malfunction and require repair/replacement of the faulty parts. The α aerosols is released during the repair/replacement process, therefore a special maintenance container is required to provide necessary shielding and protection for operators. Based on the structural characteristics of centrifugal extractors, as well as the layouts, usage scenarios, and radiation protection requirements in nuclear chemical facilities, a remote maintenance container specifically for centrifugal extractors with modular structure is designed in this study. This design scheme has the advantages of simple structure, convenient operation, high safety, excellent sealing and shielding performance, and is very suitable for the working environment of compact centrifugal extractor arrays arranged in hot cells.
