FAUT-LEACH—An Energy Efficient, Fault Tolerant Data Aggregation Scheme Using LEACH for WSNs
摘要
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) face challenges from node failures due to low battery life, impacting crucial data routing for end-user communication. Existing WSN clustering protocols prioritize energy efficiency but suffer from inefficient cluster formation and CH assignment mechanisms, leading to continuous energy usage by nonCH nodes. Furthermore, fault tolerance features are lacking. To address this, we propose an improved LEACH-based fault-tolerant and energy-efficient clustering approach. The Improved Energy-Efficient LEACH incorporates node coverage (NC) and uptime (UT) to enhance the random number selection process of LEACH, ensuring more neighboring nodes within CH radius and higher energy levels in selected CHs. Backup nodes are also chosen to bolster CH resilience and ensure uninterrupted data collection. Various data transmission channels are employed based on energy, hops, propagation speed, and route quality. Performance assessments demonstrate significant reductions in energy usage, data transmissions, and delivery delays, alongside increased network lifespan.
