The present study evaluated the social cognitive skills of individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) relative to those who were mentally healthy using the SOCRATIS scale. BPD was associated with significantly impaired social cognitive skills in both groups suggesting that social cognitive deficits are not the exclusive domain of psychiatric disorders. This issue highlights the immediate need to conduct norms for social cognitive skills while taking social and cultural variables into account. With the established norm of social cognitive skills, we can begin to provide diagnostic and therapeutic interventions so that patients improve their key cognitive skills and ultimately live better quality of lives.
