The natural resource known as mushrooms has the potential to be used as a functional food for both medical and nutritional purposes. Essential fatty acids, which are polyunsaturated fatty acids that are essential for optimal health and well-being, are abundant in them. Given their nutritional and medicinal importance, mushrooms are a significant vegetable that typically flourishes in forests. People without land can also grow it on a limited basis at home. Growing mushrooms is a profitable agricultural occupation. Sciarid flies are among the most challenging pests in mushroom cultivation due to their direct feeding damage, contamination of fruiting bodies, and ability to vector pathogens. Effective management requires an integrated approach combining environmental controls, biological methods, and chemical interventions. By understanding their biology and behavior, growers can implement measures to reduce infestations and minimize economic losses. Integrated pest management (IPM) for phorid flies offers a sustainable and effective approach for controlling these pests while minimizing environmental impact. By combining monitoring, sanitation, biological control, mechanical methods, and judicious chemical treatments, an IPM program can significantly reduce the prevalence of phorid flies in urban, agricultural, and food-handling environments. Successful management requires ongoing effort, careful monitoring, and a holistic approach that addresses the root causes of infestations.
