Pipeline Engineering in Frozen Soil Regions

This chapter focuses on pipeline engineering in frozen soil areas, primarily oil and gas pipelines, with additional coverage of water supply and drainage projects. It analyzes key geological hazards including frost heaving and thermal thaw settlement, and elaborates on the principles of engineering geological route selection as well as pipeline design criteria tailored to different types of frozen soil. Furthermore, it details three laying methods (buried, ground, and overhead) together with their applicable conditions, discusses foundation freeze-thaw variations, crossing engineering, cathodic protection, and station/tank foundation treatment. It also addresses the characteristics and construction measures of water supply and drainage engineering in frozen soil, and provides relevant thermal calculation formulas for pipelines, thereby offering comprehensive technical guidance for such engineering projects.
