Transforming Language Education Through Jigsaw Puzzle: A Focus on Enhancing Learning Continuity and Recovery Amidst Educational Crisis
摘要
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a worldwide crisis, increasing learning gaps and inequalities, specifically in language education. This study investigated the effectiveness of using the Jigsaw Puzzle as a collaborative language intervention in enhancing learning continuity and recovery in the Philippines. The study employed a quantitative research design. Participants in the experimental group participated in a collaborative language intervention, whereas the control group adhered to traditional teaching methods. To evaluate the intervention's effectiveness, pre-test and post-test assessments were conducted. A paired t-test was utilized to illustrate the significant differences between the pre-test and post-test results of the two groups following the intervention. Additionally, an independent t-test was applied to compare the scores of both groups across the subjects. The findings indicated that the experimental group experienced significantly greater improvements compared to the control group. The Jigsaw Puzzle method promoted collaboration, engagement, and peer learning, which effectively bridges language learning gaps caused by the pandemic. The results presented the Jigsaw Puzzle as a transformative language learning intervention for language education, particularly amidst an educational crisis. Recommendations include integrating the method into language instruction. This research contributes to global efforts to reimagine education management, ensuring marginalized learners are not left behind in post-pandemic recovery.
