Exploring Filipino Undergraduate Students’ Perceptions and Engagement in GenAI-Assisted Cheating
摘要
The integration of generative AI tools like Co-Pilot and ChatGPT has reshaped academic cheating, allowing students to easily generate essays and solutions that appear credible. This study explores Filipino undergraduate students’ perceptions and engagement in GenAI-assisted cheating. Using a correlational quantitative approach, a survey of 400 students from a private university in the Philippines was conducted. Descriptive statistics assessed students’ engagement and perceptions of GenAI-assisted cheating, while a Spearman rho correlation test determined the relationship between engagement and perception. Findings indicate a significant negative correlation, suggesting that as students’ perceptions of GenAI-assisted cheating shift from unacceptable to acceptable, they engage more frequently in such actions. These results underscore the need for academic institutions to raise awareness about GenAI misuse and promote academic integrity.
