Since started in 2009, China’s renminbi internationalisationrenminbi internationalisation programme has been seen as a move to challenge the US dollar’s global supremacy and shake up the global monetary system, although China officially disagrees with this view. Some cynics even argued that by internationalising the renminbi, Beijing was preparing for future currency wars by making the renminbi more convertible and more readily available in the foreign exchange market.
