The Chinese Mythistory: From “Chinese Myths” to “Mythological China”
摘要
The concept of “Mythological China,” with its integrative perspective spanning disciplines including literature, history, philosophy, religious studies, and psychology, will open new vistas into Chinese cultural history. While “Chinese Myths” are limited to recorded history beginning about 3,000 years ago with inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells, “Mythological China” transcends these boundaries. It interprets mythological thinking, identifies mythological narratives, and discovers mythological images in the folk narratives and rituals of living cultural heritage.
