Correlates of Maternal and Child Health in Ernakulam, Kerala, India: A Geospatial Approach
摘要
The state of Kerala, despite its high Human Development Index, still experiences disparities in maternal and child health. This research aims to shed light on the social vulnerabilities that contribute to these discrepancies, specifically within the Ernakulam district and underscores the importance of addressing spatial disparities in maternal and child health. By utilizing WorldPop data, this study seeks to identify key indicators of social vulnerability among mothers and children under the demographic, socio-economic, and healthcare facets by employing geospatial techniques like zonal statistics and overlay analysis using ArcGIS software. The findings revealed profound disadvantages concerning social vulnerability towards maternal-child development within the district, particularly within the Kothamangalam taluk, where the vulnerability status is extremely high. By identifying high-risk areas, policymakers can implement targeted interventions to improve the well-being of mothers and children, ultimately promoting social equity and resilience.
