On December 15, I went to see Shesh Dyakha Hoyni (The Last Encounter Didn’t Occur), almost three hours long, one of the biggest hits of the 2024–2025 jatra season, written, directed, and performed by the indomitable duo Kakoli Choudhury and Anol Chakraborty. The performance occurred in a large field, drawing a crowd of 800 to 1,000 people, including children and vendors. This performance is anything but ordinary, a family drama in which the husband is deceased, and the devoted wife, who is also a police officer, wants to avenge his husband’s death.
