Political Aspirations and Narratives of Young Activists
摘要
The previous chapter unveils the socio-political milestone of Backsilmove’s establishment as an environmental movement in Bandung and how its young activists mobilized at a protest site alongside some local environmental non-profit organization. There are dynamic structures and institutional changes that become a basis for Backsilmove as an environmental movement organization. The present chapter reveals the narrative of Backsilmove activists’ experience at the protest site in front of Gedung Sate. In this narrative, they develop agency for transforming urban politics and advocacy through voicing aspirations about the impact of forest loss on Bandung’s ecosystem and urban social interactions. In addition, activism is a risky act because it is perceived as an opposition to the government and activists could face uncertainty in terms of personal safety.
