Encouragement Stage of Becoming Environmental Activists
摘要
This chapter discusses the evolution of Backsilmove activists from childhood, through their teenage years, and up to university. As it explores their life trajectories and experiences across these stages of life, it looks at what happened in the development of their primary ecological habitus. They clearly had firsthand experiences with environment and outdoor activities, as well as resource exploitation in their local community as a result of urban expansion. In this chapter, I explore some key themes that emerged from the interview accounts: parents’ pro-environmental conduct, outdoor activities, parents’ political activity, participation in the Scouting movement, learning about nature through science at the primary school level, and unpleasant encounters with nature.
