摘要

Active ageing is a concept that seeks to improve the health, participation and security of older people. Currently there is little evidence to suggest that Malaysians are actively ageing. This chapter aims to provide a comprehensive review of the level of active ageing among older people in Malaysia, based on six determinants: health and social services; behavioural domain; personal domain; physical environment; social environment and economic domain. Additionally, this chapter highlights the usefulness of the measurement tool of active ageing, which quantifies the level based on four domains: employment; participation in society; independent, healthy and secure living; and capacity and enabling environment. This chapter reveals myriad challenges faced by older people in Malaysia and concludes by outlining several implications and policy directions aimed at promoting active ageing.
