摘要
Through the lens of ecopedagogy and Ujamaa, this chapter discusses the urgent need to rethink education in response to serious global issues such as social injustice, and the destruction of ecosystems. The chapter highlights the potential of ecopedagogy and Ujamaa as tools for individual and societal development. The chapter underscores the need for a transformative educational approach that promotes ecological civilization and sustainability. Integrating Ujamaa into educational practices is central to this vision because it aligns its values with the objectives of sustainability and ecological civilization, which seek to balance human d/Development and ecological limitations. The philosophical foundations of Ujamaa, its relationship to ecological civilization, and its function in ecopedagogies and sustainability education are all examined in this chapter. This chapter emphasizes how integrating Ujamaa into educational practices can help students develop a respect for equity, community, connectedness, and environmental stewardship. The analysis unpacks the four central tenets of Ujamaa and reimagines their application in fostering socio-environmental justice through a praxis-centered ecopedagogical approach. The chapter argues for a reform that transforms education from a simple means of imparting knowledge into a potent tool for developing socially and environmentally conscious global citizens, establishing the groundwork for a sustainable and peaceful future, by integrating Ujamaa with sustainability education and ecopedagogies.
