Demonstration Zone for Socialism: Shenzhen on a New Journey

In August 2019, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council issued the Guidelines on Supporting Shenzhen in Building a Demonstration Zone for Socialism with Chinese Characteristics. The document clearly outlines the guiding principles, strategic positioning, and development goals for Shenzhen’s initiative to build a demonstration zone for socialism with Chinese characteristics, and specifies the plan for this initiative from the perspectives of modern economic system, democracy and the rule of law, modern urban civilization, development model focused on people’s well-being, and a showcase for beautiful China according to the Five-Sphere Integrated Plan and the Four-Pronged Comprehensive Strategy. This initiative reflects the Party and the government’s high expectations for Shenzhen. The city must stay committed to reform and innovation and maintain a spirit of resilience and determination when striving to fulfill the mission entrusted by the central government.
