A Culturally Advanced City and Modernization of the People

Since ancient times, culture has been the foundation of a country or nation. It is also the soul of a city. This applies not only to the observation and analysis of cities with a long history but also to young cities like Shenzhen, namely, how the intrinsic driver of Shenzhen’s success has been nurtured and constructed by culture. To build a demonstration zone for socialism with Chinese characteristics and a model city of a great modern socialist country, Shenzhen must pursue a new path of development that involves urban culture and the modernization of the people, in addition to economic and social development. This includes shaping the “cultural ethos of socialist market economy” and establishing Shenzhen as a typical culturally advanced modern city of China.
