The Rise of MBenes in Electro-catalysing Water Splitting Reactions
摘要
Electrocatalytic water splitting has attracted significant attention as a key way to generate clean hydrogen from water without toxic byproducts. The highly efficient electrocatalyst is important to accomplish the energy transfer process during water splitting. To replace currently available precious and noble metal electrocatalysts, nonprecious-metal catalysts have been proposed for large-scale production. Among them, two-dimensional (2D) MBenes class materials attracted curiosity due to the unique characteristics associated with structures. This chapter briefly discusses and presents recent research efforts devoted to exploring 2D MBenes as electrocatalysts for water-splitting reactions. The chapter summarizes different structural aspects of MBenes with their properties, preparation strategies of MBenes, and role of MBenes as an electrocatalyst along with reaction mechanisms. The electrocatalytic properties and performances of MBenes are thoroughly discussed based on theoretical and experimental evidence. A brief outlook on current progress and future challenges in front of 2D MBenes-based electrocatalysts is proposed along with perspectives.
