IoT and Smart Manufacturing for Poultry Farm
摘要
Traditional poultry farming faces significant challenges, including resource inefficiencies, environmental concerns, and animal welfare issues. The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and smart manufacturing practices offers a transformative solution, enabling real-time monitoring, management, and optimization of various production aspects. We explored the implementation, benefits, challenges, and governance of IoT-enabled smart poultry farming systems. The systems include diverse IoT sensors for data collection on environmental conditions, animal health, feed, and equipment status and leverage wireless connectivity for data transmission. By employing advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), the system also leads to the construction of predictive models. The automated control system enhance efficiency and reducing labor for farming. A case study conducted on an egg production poultry farm in this study demonstrates the benefits of these technologies. A sensor network and machine learning algorithms are employed for data analysis (e.g., predicting disease, optimizing feeding), and automating farm operations. While demonstrating improvements in efficiency, animal welfare, and resource management, challenges exist, including considrable initial investment, the necessity for reliable connectivity, data security, and privacy. Interoperability among diverse devices and the need for skilled farm staff are also required. The importance of governance frameworks, industry standards, and supportive policies is also necessary to ensure responsible, ethical, and sustainable adoption of the technologies. IoT-enabled smart farming systems have great potential to revolutionize poultry farming, enhancing productivity and sustainability with challenges addressed through collaborative efforts.
