摘要

The water has the quintessential significance in the cultural and faith driven systems thus forming the core of socio-cultural interactions through antiquity. From the Phoenicians to Greeks and all the way to current times, the role of water in having the cohesive and centrifugal effect on the meandering course of social patterns is vivid. Water carries an associative meaning of sacredness from the diverse religious perspectives. The divine and the sacred nature of water define the symbol of religious beliefs, sentiments and emotionality it brings forth. While using the concepts like sacred and profane borrowed from Durkheiman sociology this article looks; how faith can make ordinary things sacred and gives a sense of awe feeling and solidarity among different religious groups.
