The impacts of global climate change, including rising temperatures, sedentary lifestyles, and the expanding built environment, have heightened the significance of green open spaces, parks, and playgrounds in urban areas. Patna, the capital city of Bihar, is governed by the Municipal Corporation and falls within the Patna Metropolitan Region. As of the 2011 census, the total population of the Patna UA/metropolitan region was 2,049,156. The city covers an area of approximately 38.6 square miles, with a population density of approximately 43,840 residents per square mile. In response to these challenges, Patna boasts a multitude of small and large parks situated throughout the city, providing valuable green open spaces specifically designed to cater to the needs of children, women, and elderly individuals. These groups are considered vulnerable sections of society that often encounter difficulties in accessing adequate facilities and face concerns related to safety and security in public parks. Thus, the primary objective of this research paper is to investigate the availability of infrastructural facilities within these parks. Furthermore, the study aims to assess the accessibility of essential amenities and to evaluate safety and security measures implemented within the parks. To achieve these objectives, the research methodology involves conducting walking interviews with representatives from three distinct age groups: children, women, and elderly individuals. For a case study, two specific parks, namely, S.K. Puri Park and Lohiya Park, were selected from different areas within the Patna Municipal Corporation jurisdiction. By focusing on these parks, the research aims to provide a deeper understanding of the current status of park facilities and amenities in Patna, while specifically addressing the needs of vulnerable sections of society.
