Implementing Ergonomic Concept to Enhance Patient Care Through Design Approach

The design of patient beds is essential for enhancing patient comfort, safety, and overall health outcomes. Ergonomically designed beds significantly reduce the occurrence of pressure ulcers, facilitate mobility, and promote better health and recovery. Ergonomic characteristics, such as adjustable heights, and supportive surfaces, play a crucial role in improving pressure points and preventing harm for both patients and caregivers. These modifications can ease the likelihood of musculoskeletal injuries among caregivers during the handling and transfer of patients. Furthermore, ergonomic beds can enhance the effectiveness of hospital treatment by providing improved access to therapies and examinations, thereby contributing to a more favourable healthcare environment. Design evaluation is also a vital component in the creation of efficient and user-centric patient beds; by conducting a detailed design assessment, designers can gather insights from a variety of stakeholders such as patients, families, healthcare providers, and caregivers to better understand their needs and concerns. This process involves looking at the ergonomic standards, understanding user viewpoints, and exploring creative bed designs to find ways to make improvements. This study is focused on iterative prototyping and feedback mechanisms, aimed at improving attributes such as adjustability, support surfaces, and control systems for increased comfort, safety, and functionality.
