Assessment plays an important role in ensuring the quality of services and preparing students to achieve the defined requirements. Psychiatry is a field where students are required to achieve clinical competence, communication skills, and professional attitudes. This chapter describes the current landscape of psychiatry assessment in South Asia. It acknowledges the diversity of educational systems, the impact of contextual factors, and the increasingly important role of assessment in ensuring high-quality training. Drawing on examples from countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, this chapter critically examines assessment methods and the evolving changes. This chapter highlights the challenges, such as resource constraints, stigma, variability in faculty training, and regulatory differences, while also mentioning the strengths and opportunities. Finally, a few recommendations for enhancing psychiatry assessment are suggested. This will ensure better training of future doctors and psychiatrists, capable of meeting the needs of the community.
