The growing demands for industrialized approaches in the construction sector are pushing for a shift in methodologies and construction strategies, and architectural practice should play a central role in this discourse, connecting design and industrial production. Modular Construction (MC) increasingly incorporates industrialized design strategies and building methods, which introduce specific characteristics to architectural design processes. However, a coherent understanding of how modular strategies affect project development is lacking, and this knowledge is crucial. This research aims to explore the impact of MC on architectural design, this entails understating the full spectrum of how MC influences design stages, from planning and execution to end of life. Through a review and analysis of international guidelines and project frameworks from countries in Europe and North America, different practices and commonalities across varying contexts are identified. These insights allow us to explore the intersection between key MC principles—modularity, compatibility, reconfigurability, standardization, and industrialization—and the different phases of an architectural design process. This research aims to contribute to the advancement of MC practices and research, as well as establishing a path for the development of a project development framework specific to MC.

摘要
