Since pragmatics branched off from the language philosophy matrix and gradually became an independent branch of linguistics, and Grice’s theory of conversational implicature rose to prominence, contextualists represented by Recanati, Levinson, Jaszczolt, Sperber & Wilson, Carston and Parikh and semantic minimalists represented by Borg, Bach, Cappelen & Lepore, Stanley, Predelli, MacFarlane and Kölbel, these two opposing post-Grice theory and its various variants have been focusing on the criticism and development of the classical Grice’s theory of conversational implicature.
