Assessing Microclimatic Vulnerabilities for Enhancing Climate Resilience Using the Sendai Framework: A Case of Ernakulam City
摘要
Urban areas increasingly face risks from extreme weather-related events induced by climate change, thus mandating proactive approaches to build resilience. This paper explores microclimate interventions as a strategy to enhance climate resilience using Ernakulam City in Kerala, India, as a case study. The paper conducted an integrated vulnerability assessment to determine the city’s exposure to climate hazards, making use of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. A mixed-methods approach using Geographic Information System mapping (GIS), expert interviews, and climate modeling was undertaken. The results reveal several key vulnerabilities within Ernakulam City, including deficiencies in infrastructure, socioeconomic inequality, and environmental degradation exacerbated by global warming.
