This chapter endeavours to give an overview of the present book. It explores the well-established relationship between population growth, health outcomes, and development, highlighting persistent concerns in India, including inadequate healthcare systems and poor health status among women and children. It underscores that prevention of disease and premature mortality must take priority for improving population health, supported by a stronger, more equitable health system. The analysis draws from contributions that link health system effectiveness to outcomes in infant and child mortality, aligned with global goals like SDG-3. Gendered disparities in service utilisation and survival persist as key challenges despite socioeconomic progress. The book emphasizes addressing inequities in health access and outcomes as essential for sustainable development. The book emphasizes the importance of integrating mental and physical well-being into discussions on population, health, and development. It highlights that system-focused analyses remain incomplete without considering the needs of diverse and marginalized groups, as well as the influence of market and industry forces.
