Metaheuristic algorithms are well known for solving complex problems from almost all application domains. These algorithms are inspired from the natural intelligence available in our surroundings such as behavior of ants, swarms, fireflies, cuckoo, bats, etc. Some algorithms are inspired by the law of physics, chemical reactions, and biological evolution. These algorithms have their own characteristics and properties which may not be applicable to solve all types of problems. For that possible changes/ modifications are required to solve it. These limitations of the standalone algorithm can be overcome by combining the complimentary properties of two or more algorithms. This is referred to as hybrid algorithm. The hybrid metaheuristic algorithms are widely used to solve structural engineering problems. This chapter discusses hybrid algorithms which are widely used to solve a variety of structural engineering problems. It explores the advancements in optimization methodologies by hybridizing the different algorithms. It is also discussed about the performance based on computation speed, solution quality, and robustness for solving complex structural problems.

摘要
