Analysis of the Pathways to Carbon Neutrality at Product Level

Achieving carbon neutrality for a product means reducing its carbon emissions to zero or close to zero through means such as reduction, offsetting or absorption. Carbon neutrality at the product level reflects a company’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire life cycle of the product. Such carbon neutrality not only helps to reduce a company’s impact on climate change, but also enables the company to reduce its negative impact on climate change, enhance its brand image, meet consumers’ environmental protection requirements, and may obtain relevant tax reductions or incentives. Meanwhile, product carbon neutrality also helps to promote technological innovation and the development of renewable energy, and facilitates sustainable economic growth. Achieving product-level carbon neutrality usually involves assessing and managing the carbon emissions in each stage of the product, from raw material sourcing, production, transportation, use to final disposal, which helps to improve production processes, use low-carbon materials, optimize logistics, improve product energy efficiency, and increase the product recycling rate. In addition, companies may also need to use carbon offsetting projects, such as afforestation or purchasing carbon credits, to balance the carbon emissions that are difficult to eliminate through technological improvements.
