Introduction
摘要
The legacy of history weights heavily on Africa whose peoples continue to be relegated to the margins of international relations. There is a desperate need to understand our past, explore the current reasons holding the continent back and seek to exercise African agency in an uncaring world dominated by realpolitik. The ongoing tragedy in Sudan which has seen millions suffering in the cause of the vanities and outsized egos of two generals, further fuelled by a range of foreign actors is emblematic of the tragedy confronting the continent as a whole. How Africa engages with the world in the twenty-first century as an equal is a key concern of this volume.
