Climate change and global warming pose critical challenges to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, adversely affecting natural resources, food security, health, and urban stability. This region, already grappling with the severe impacts of rising temperatures, faces acute drought and salinity issues that undermine the stability and expansion of urban green spaces. Haloculture, a pioneering technology that utilizes saline soil and water, offers a promising solution for managing and expanding green spaces under these challenging conditions. This chapter employs the PRISMA approach to explore the effects of climate change on MENA cities, examining the risks to communities and the exacerbation of urban heat islands. It discusses the potential of haloculture as a sustainable technology, highlights suitable plants, and presents case studies for green space expansion. Furthermore, it proposes haloculture strategies and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) approaches to enhance green space management, adaptation, and expansion in response to climate change in the MENA region.
