ZnO Tetrapods: Introduction to Unique Properties, Synthesis Methods and Applications

The outstanding popularity of ZnO with reasons to be a very promising, versatile and abundant material is due to its multi-functionality, resulting in applications in physics, chemistry, materials science and engineering, energy, textile, additive manufacturing, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical as well and the ease to grow all kinds of nano-and microstructures. The key tetrapod-shaped ZnO (ZnO-T) structure, with its remarkable properties and multi-functionality has a need for focused attention for emerging versatile applications that are likely to come in the near future. This chapter gives brief introduction on various ZnO properties and multitude of morphologies with emphasis on ZnO-T structure, synthesis techniques covering the scope of unique shape and geometry toward advanced technologies including nano optoelectronics, sensing devices, novel biomedical engineering materials and devices, versatile energy harvesting devices.
