Sustainable development is a growing concern of organizations contributing to resource efficiency and improving the quality of life of the community. Smart cities are approaches of many local administrations and integrated aspects of creativity and innovation. This research performs a qualitative evaluation of the principles of sustainability approached by local administrations and a quantitative statistical analysis of a questionnaire applied to the local community of a city. This research is based on an online questionnaire to investigate the community regarding the development of a smart city. The questionnaire includes over 100 investigated items, comprehensive research. The questionnaire was administered online, and the validated sample consisted of 314 people. Items such as sustainable transport, efficient waste management, green spaces, urban mobility, integrated systems of infrastructures and processes in the energy field, and technological innovation has an important impact on the respondents and must be integrated into the concept of the smart city. The limitation of the research refers to the fact that in this stage of the pilot research, the questionnaire was applied at the level of the community of a city. Future research will scale the present approach.
