Sunflower represents one of the most significant oilseed crops, with a high economic and technological potential. The paper aims to approach important aspects of agroecological management of sunflower in the context of the circular economy, by addressing issues related to specific features of the circular economy and agroecology, applications of agroecology and circular economy to sunflower, as well as aspects related to sunflower crop management and future research in the circular economy in this direction. The paper concludes on the important role played by sunflowers through utilization of seeds, by-products and waste. Its integration into circular economic chains allows for the full valorization of the plants and their by-products, promoting sustainable business models that minimize waste and maximize the use of resources. Moreover, the benefits of the circular economy in sunflower such as economic, ecological and social emphasize its importance in the sustainable use of resources and creation of value-added products. The existing opportunities like public policies that encourage and support circular agriculture, increased demand for organic and sustainable agricultural products, development of collaboration chains between agriculture, industry and the energy sector, as well as development of partnerships between farmers, industry and the energy sector must be fully valorized for a future sustainable development of the sector.
