Risk Assessment and Vulnerability Mapping of Soil Erosion for Climate-Resilient Disaster Management with Geospatial Techniques

Soil erosion is a significant issue that poses a threat to the environment. For management and soil conservation, the erosion-prone area must be assessed and mapped. To determine the rate of soil erosion and compute the amount of sediment yield owing to erosion, several models were developed. The most popular analytical model for calculating the average annual soil loss is the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation. An attempt has been made to predict possible yearly soil loss in Chikodi Taluk. An actual model of five factors was used for the RUSLE equation: Soil Erodibility (K), Runoff-Rainfall Erosivity (R), Land use/land cover (C), Topographic (LS), and Supporting Conservation Practice (P) for the prediction. In the ArcGIS environment, the revised universal soil loss equation was used. The result shows that the study area’s annual average of soil erosion is 30 t /ha /year. The map of estimated soil loss will be a useful tool for developing sustainable development strategies.
