Tensionless Strings: Closed and Open
摘要
In this article, I review the classical aspects of both the closed as well as open sector of bosonic tensionless strings. For closed strings, the residual worldsheet gauge symmetry algebra corresponds to 2D Carrollian Conformal Algebra (CCA) or 3D Bondi-Metzner-Sachs (BMS \(_3\) ) algebra, a result known since the 1990s. However, the corresponding worldsheet symmetry algebra for null open strings was only recently developed in our work [12], where we uncovered a novel worldsheet symmetry structure, the Boundary Carrollian Conformal Algebra (BCCA). This discovery establishes a Carrollian analog of boundary conformal field theory (BCCFT), paving the way for new insights into non-Lorentzian physics.
