This chapter uses a philosophical/theoretical approach of human entanglement theory (cf. Aspalter, Soc Dev Issues 46:5, 2024; Aspalter, Human entanglement theory: a quantum approach to the study of all-encompassing human communication, Springer Nature, Singapore, 2024) and applies it to the societal impact of the pandemic, particularly via public policy and media, their forces, and developments. Foucauldian power relations are good examples of human entanglements that control and not only influence people’s behavior, especially their decision making and communication choices, especially also within people’s minds, through the use of language and communication. The least common denominators that are used by the human entanglement theory are words, which are the quanta/atoms of societies and humanity. The author is following a post-Luhmannian approach that is, besides all social and cultural communications, also integrating all intra-personal communications, as well as human-to-machine, machine-to-machine, and machine-to-human communications, plus biological communications. The resulting perspective of human quantum mechanics, as applied in this chapter, is inspired by the latest developments of physical quantum mechanics (as well as quantum computing). The essence of human quantum mechanics and human entanglement theory is outlined and explained in this chapter, and conclusions are drawn as regard their impact on society, particularly major public policy developments, media developments, and mass psychology during the recent COVID-19 pandemic, with a special focus on modern liberal democracies all over the world.
