Omega-3 fatty acids (O3FAs) play vital functions in healthy cell membranes and mental well-being, and this is becoming more acknowledged. The role of omega-3 fatty acids, specifically eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), in regulation of mental health issues is considered in this chapter. A plethora of studies reported that they may be useful in attenuating depression, anxiety, and symptoms of cognitive impairment. Based on clinical research, omega-3 supplement intake could be beneficial in cognitive performance, mood stabilization, and general mental health. These effects of omega-3 fatty acids are linked to their mechanistic influence on inflammation, neurotransmitter function, and neuroplasticity. However, despite the promising and encouraging results in this area, more investigation is necessary to completely comprehend the best dosages, impacts on long-term use, and the mechanisms underlying these advantages. Still, O3FAs as an adjuvant therapy is promising for managing mental health.
