This chapter thoroughly examines the rationale and impetus for incorporating high-performance and AI techniques in architectural design. It discusses the increasing significance of sustainable design in architecture and the role of AI in realizing these objectives, emphasizing its influence on energy usage and building efficiency. Artificial Intelligence has multiple benefits that improve high-performance buildings, rendering them more sustainable and efficient. We discuss three fundamental elements: (1) AI techniques: data-driven design, rule-based design, and generative design, (2) AI models such as machine learning, surrogate modeling, and hybrid methods, and (3) key implementation challenges such as data limitations, scalability, and ethical issues. We compare the constraints of conventional optimization techniques with the advantages of AI systems in addressing these issues. The results illustrate how these AI methodologies discern trends, forecast results, and propose optimization measures, all intended to improve building performance. In this sense, the chapter presents the practical implementation of AI in architecture through real-world examples, emphasizing its capacity to enhance building energy efficiency, daylighting, and other sustainability goals. As a result, this work highlights AI’s significance in attaining sustainability and energy efficiency, provides perspectives on the future of sustainable construction methods, and contributes to the continuing discourse on AI’s incorporation in architectural design.

摘要
