Cognitive developmental robotics is a research field that aims to uncover the mechanisms underlying cognitive development.,, By designing computational models and embodied robots, researchers investigate how intelligence emerges through interactions among the brain, body, and environment. This chapter first introduces two key design components—internal structures and external environment—in the study of cognitive development. It then highlights the distinctive challenges of this approach in comparison with traditional artificial intelligence.
