A Smart Aeroponics for Sustainable Agriculture: New Horizon and Use Cases

Agricultural production is increasingly threatened by climate change, plant diseases, and natural disasters such as droughts, floods, storms, irregular rainfalls, and extreme temperatures. To meet the rising demand for food and sustain nutritional standards for a growing population under these challenges, the adoption of Agriculture 4.0 has become essential. This new paradigm is driven by intelligent information and communication technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning (ML), Cloud-based data processing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which are transforming the agricultural landscape. These technologies are employed in a variety of farming practices, including crop production, cattle breeding, aquaculture, and snail farming. Aeroponics is a method that accelerates plant growth by using water vapor or mist to grow plants without soil. In order to grow healthier crops, this method seeks to preserve the environment free from diseases and pests. Due to the increased frequency of droughts brought on by global climate change, traditional farming may find it difficult to feed an expanding population with fresh, healthy food. Soilless agriculture, such as hydroponic and aeroponics systems, provides a useful alternative where plant roots are suspended in a plastic holder under controlled conditions with foam material replacing soil.
